Cipheus is a unique messaging app that lets you communicate with friends using custom cipher languages. Instead of plain text, your messages are transformed into beautiful, mysterious symbols that only you and your friends who share the same language pack can understand.
Download Cipheus from the App Store and open the app. You can sign in using your Apple ID or Google account. After signing in, you'll set up your profile with a username and display name, and you're ready to start chatting!
There are three ways to add friends in Cipheus: 1) Search for their username in the Friends tab, 2) Scan their QR code using the built-in scanner, or 3) Share your invite link via messages, social media, or other apps.
Language Packs
Language Packs are custom cipher alphabets that transform your messages into secret codes. Each pack has a unique visual style - from ancient Nordic runes to futuristic star symbols. You can use preset packs or co-create custom ones with friends.
Go to the Packs tab and tap "Co-Create." Select a friend to create with, then choose 13 symbols for your half of the alphabet. Your friend will receive an invitation to complete the other 13 symbols. Once both of you have chosen your symbols, the unique language pack is created!
Yes! You can set a default Language Pack for all your chats, or choose different packs for different conversations. This means you can have a unique secret language with each friend.
Messaging
Messages automatically appear in cipher form using the selected Language Pack. To see the original text, simply long-press on any message and it will temporarily reveal the decoded content. Tap anywhere else to hide it again.
The Cipher Keyboard lets you type directly in cipher symbols for an immersive experience. Instead of typing normal letters, you tap on the cipher symbols from your selected Language Pack. It follows the same layout as a regular keyboard, so it's easy to learn.
Yes! Cipheus supports multiple languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and more. Latin-based characters get 1:1 symbol mappings, while other scripts like Chinese use our special hex encoding system.
Privacy & Security
Yes! Your data is stored securely on our servers with industry-standard encryption. The cipher transformation happens locally on your device, and only users with the same Language Pack can decode messages. We never share your personal information with third parties.
Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This will permanently remove your profile, messages, and friendships. Any co-created Language Packs will remain available to the other creator. This action cannot be undone.
Troubleshooting
First, check that notifications are enabled in Settings > Notifications within the app. Also make sure notifications are allowed for Cipheus in your iPhone's Settings app. If issues persist, try signing out and back in, or reinstalling the app.
If you see jumbled symbols, make sure you and your friend are using the same Language Pack. You can check the current pack at the top of the chat. If you're using different packs, you'll see their messages encoded with their pack's symbols.
